15 Month Check-up

Soooo... we've had a sick household this week. Starting with me. So much for pregnancy super-immunity. Olivia woke up this morning with the sniffles and a super cranky tude. Poor thing. I feel so bad when they get sick. Our last bad cold was back in July -- Allen is pretty sure we had H1N1 virus. Oink!

But, as luck would have it, we had our doctor's appointment today for the girls' 15 month well-child checkup. For whatever reason there was a glitch in the system so we couldn't see our regular pediatrician, but we got to see Dr. Owens -- who is a stud super-star doctor. Don't get me wrong, I still love Dr. Slowik. I've asked her numerous times to move to Chattanooga. But, it was still nice to see a new doctor.

She said:
-It is not too early to start time out (to help with Olivia's swatting and sitting on her sister's head). She said use a minute per year of life and add more, if needed.
-She was very impressed with the girls' vocabulary. They can say moo, hiss, meow, woof, mama, dada, lala (for Lela), tatoo (for thank you), cheese, juice, ba ba (for belly button), shoes, up, cup, hop hop (what a bunny rabbit does), cuckoo, baby ... and more! She said that she would be happy if the girls just knew how to say "mama" and "dada!" Yay for all the books we've been reading (nonstop).
-That she is not concerned with their weight at all -- yay! This has been a constant concern of mine since they were born.
-That if it would make me feel better, she would refer me to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon to look at Olivia's stature (I'm convinced that she is a little "curved"). So we have an appointment for October 16th.
-She said that I need to sit on Olivia to brush her teeth ... Olivia SCREAMS whenever I try to brush her teeth. Emma likes to do it herself.
-Impressed that they are walking backwards, putting legos together, knows body parts, tries to lift heavy objects, dances, understands and responds to commands (such as "let's take a nap" or "let's go" or "let's put on your shoes" etc.), helping get dressed and much, much more!
-Said I need to give them Fred Flinstones vitamins. Love those! She said the gummy ones rot their teeth. haha.
-We definitely need to get the H1N1 vaccine and the regular flu shot. Yay.
-can't remember everything else off the top of my head ... baby brain!

Stats:
Emma:
Weight: 21 pounds, 8 ounces (28th %tile)
Height: 30.1 inches (39th %tile)
Head Circumference: 17.8 inches (32nd %tile)

Olivia:
Weight: 20 pounds, 15 ounces (20th %tile)
Height: 29.8 inches (29th %tile)
Head Circumference: 17.7 inches (25th %tile)

The girls got three shots each... it was by far the worst go of it. They both hurt so bad. I wanted to smack the nurse (not really), but it still hurts so bad when your babies cry in pain.

So it is 8 p.m. and they went down at 7 ... they have already cried out three times. It is going to be a long night. Poor babies. Both of their little thighs were beet red when I put their jammies on. Poor, poor babies.
