The Second Month

This was a great month -- and the first month that I didn't have any backup. This is the month I learned to care for two babies -- by myself (during the day, of course Allen was home at night and weekends). Allen had paternity leave the week the girls were born and was able to take care of me at home. He also took a week of vacation the week the girls came home. Then my mom came into town their third week, Allen's mom the fourth week. It was really nice to have help around the house so I could learn how to be a mommy -- they were my training wheels. I cried when everyone left. It was so scary taking care of TWO babies by myself. And the feeding schedule was still every 3 hours... so that is all I did. Feed babies. So much fun!

I took the girls to several lactation consultant visits which was fun because we got to weigh them and see their progress of weight gain. I desperately wanted chubby babies! More on the breastfeeding in a later post.

Here are the stats from their 2 month well child visit:
Emma
Date: 9.12.08
Weight: 9.5 pounds (10th percentile)
Length: 21.5 inches (25th percentile)
Head Circumfrence: 14.5 inches (12th percentile)

Olivia
Date: 9.12.08
Weight: 9 pounds (8th percentile)
Length: 20.75 inches (5th percentile)
Head Circumfrence: 14.5 inches (12th percentile)

Allen was in Boston for this visit and so Grandmuggs (Allen's mom, Kathy) came into town to help me out. They received several shots. I think it hurt us more than them, they hardly cried at all!

Biggest challenge: still with the breastfeeding. It was ALOT of work.
Biggest reward: seeing my babies grow.
